"Garmin 750 - Best thing since sliced bread" 2009-08-11
By Sherial Bradley (Arkansas)
Purchased the Garmin 750 in July 2009. Unit arrived quickly, instructions were easy to use. We've traveled in both very rural areas and very urban areas and it worked perfectly. On a weekend trip to Nashville we merely stored all of the hotels, resturants, shopping areas, and tourist destinations we needed prior to leaving home in the favorites. Regardless of where we were, we just pressed the hotel favorite or other favorite we needed and the Garmin directed us right to the destination. On a weekend trip to a small southern town, I needed to go to Wal-mart. I merely selected shopping and keyed in Wal-mart, the unit gave me a list of stores and the distance. I made my selection and was good to go. We've considered purchasing one for quite some time - why did we put if off! The voice is pleasant, the destination time is handy, and the speed limit display is very helpful.

 "I'm everywhere I want to be..." 2009-07-31
By R. Mazzeo (Southeast PA)
The Good:

- Everything you'd expect from a Garmin, good interface and fairly intuitive.

- Was wary about the loss of external antenna when Garmin went from the 6xx series to the 7xx. But I have never lost satellite lock, not even inside my house while programming it.

- Plenty of POIs, great for finding a familiar restaurant or store when working on the road.

- Seems to learn your usual driving speed over time and calculates destination times accordingly.

- Built in speaker is more than adequate

- Customer service (see below)

The Bad:

- FM Transmitter is weak.

- Be sure to check its planned route first before leaving, like anything that generates directions it can throw you a curve once in a while. This is the exception.

- Check Garmin's online maps before updating your unit. Their map supplier missed a fairly large new bypass that opened a couple years ago that still wasn't in the 2009 update. Their cartography department was quick to reply when I inquired about it though. (It will be there in the 2010 update).

 "Mixed feelings" 2009-07-27
By Ron Cronovich (Kenosha, WI)
I purchased this Garmin 750 about 6 months ago, to replace a Garmin 650 that was stolen. I loved the 650. The 750 adds a few features (the most useful of which is constructing a route with multiple destinations). However, overall I am a bit disappointed, for two reasons:

1) The first time you turn it on after not using it for a while, it takes a long time to acquire satellites. By "long," I mean 3-5 minutes. Very frustrating. Fortunately, if you stop briefly in the middle of a road trip, it acquires satellites pretty quickly after turning it back on.

2) The screen is not as bright as my Garmin 650. I am actually on my 2nd 750: I returned the first one because the screen was very dim. The second one is much better by comparison with the first, but noticeably dimmer than the 650. This is a bit of an inconvenience when you're driving in bright sunlight, and when you're driving in the evening - late enough for the unit to shift to night mode, but before it's actually fully dark outside.

Otherwise, the Nuvi 750 functions fine. It chooses routes very well, its navigation features are intuitive and very useful (like with all the Nuvi line), the build quality is good and the suction mount to the windshield is very secure - even going over big bumps and rough roads, the Nuvi stays mounted pretty well. I've researched GPS units from other companies and prefer the Garmin Nuvi series, I will get another Nuvi when it's time to replace this one.

I'm wondering if Garmin's quality control is inconsistent, because many of the reviews here are very favorable, while many others cite problems such as mine.

My advice: find the Nuvi with the right mix of features you want and need, and buy it from a reputable place with a good return policy (like Amazon), then use it around town for a week or two. Hopefully, you'll get a good one, but if not you'll be able to return it for a replacement.

I purchased the GPS for my daughter who has difficulty finding her way from point A to B. After she used it for a short period of time, she told me that the GPS was invented for her. It is very easy to use and it is accurate. This is the second one I purchased from Amazon. I reccommend this item.

 "Very poor map provided" 2009-08-12
By G. Davis (Las Vegas)
The Garmin eTrex Venture HC GPS Receiver itself, syncs up well and the features provided seem to work as advertised. The problem is, the map provided with the unit is less than poor. Further, Garmin charges an arm and a legg for any additional maps. Any prospective buyer should consider the costs of additional maps along with the base price of this unit in doing any comparitive shopping.

the manual that comes with the etrex does not cover the unit and requires a lengthy delay to access factory help(about 20 minutes).there is nothing in the manual on down loading maps or how to delete any stored way points etc.

the entire operation is complicated to say the least. i probably was expecting the operation to resemble it's automtive counterpart in operation but such is not the case. in all it i a big disappointment.

"Do not buy this item!" 2009-08-05
By Bobo (Wisconsin)
I purchased this item in hopes of using it on my bicycle to travel down many different country roads in my area. The explanations for what this unit does were not clear and the unit did not live up to my expectations. It comes with a base map that tells you basically that you are in North America. I already know this and wanted more detail so I ordered the Maps on DVD recommended by Garmin. These cost an extra $100. I recieved them and found I wasn't able to put them on my unit because it doesn't have enough internal memory. Of course Garmin never mentioned this.I finally called the manufacturer who told me that the unit just doesn't do what I want it to do, mainly, show me detailed road maps for when I bike around my area. I don't know if I can return this useless item but I'm going to try. I'll never buy any Garmin product again.

 "Okay." 2009-07-14
By TracyT. (Clinton, OH USA)
I bought this GPS for the geocaching mode and for that purpose it has worked out okay. It usually only gets me around 25ft from the cache, even in WAAS mode, but I have found what I am looking for - usually. The one very big downfall is the basemap is so that - a base. To get any map it will cost you $99 in the United States. I think that is hugely steep considering I already paid $128 on sale for this GPS. I've seen them for $199 on other sites. Amazon is great for deals! Also, you can't get a straight answer from Garmin's support site either. They just give you the runaround, and the directions to use the GPS are virtually non-existent. You have to pretty much just figure out everything on your own. So if you need a map, plan on spending another $99.

 "Perfect for beginners" 2009-07-12
By Alan Poynor
I purchased this GPS for my wife's use. I have a Garmin Map60C, which she feels is too complicated to use comfortably, and finds too large to tote around. The entire eTrex line is excellent, but the Venture model offers the opportunity, IMHO, for a beginner to expand their use. The memory for loading different maps was key to the decision to purchase the Venture HC. The display is bright, and easily adjusted to help conserve battery life. Scrolling through the pages is easy, particularly if you take the time to set them up. I was worried about how reliably the enter/rocker key would work, but neither of us has had any problems using it. As with any technical piece of equipment, it can't be emphasized enough: read the operator's manual, not just the quick start guide.

I had been looking for a GPS for quite some time and after talking to friends they said that Garmin is the best brand. I was looking for something easy to use and at a great price, which is why I decided on the nuvi 270.I'm not going to be travelling overseas so all I needed it for was to be able to travel interstate without using mapquest. The instructions were good but really the nuvi is so easy to use that instrutions really aren't need. I love the touch screen and the size and I would definately recommend this GPS to anyone who just needs something easy to use to get them from A to B.

I use this GPS when I travel inside or outside the US. I carry it in my laptop bag. Last week we rented a car in the UK and it worked flawlessly. When we got back to the US, I put it in a rental car and it worked on this side of the Atlantic. It is a refurbished unit and it was very inexpensive. I purchased it because it covers all of Europe and North America. It doesn't have all the features the expensive units have, but it always finds what I am looking for. Overall- a great value for the price.

"Check a map before you go" 2009-07-22
By Twiddly Diddly (Bay Area, CA)
I am a commercial pilot and quite familiar with using GPS (including Garmin aviation products).

This is the second nuvi I have owned. I sent the first one back (which only had the USA / Canada maps) for the same reasons as highlighted in this review of the 270.

On vacation in the UK recently this unit proved (once again) to be very inconsistent in calculating routes. There is only two options (fastest and shortest) but the unit takes the route that it feels like taking and quite often it is the longest and slowest.

It does not seem to realize that a motorway has a 70 mph speed limit and an A road has a 60 mph speed limit (which often only averages about 40 mph due to roundabouts, traffic lights and congestion).

Occasionally the unit will suggest a turn off the route that it has calculated only to recalculate and send you back to the same route via a roundabout or u turn! Quite mad.

If you use this very basic unit I suggest that you familiarize yourself with the routes available before departure and keep a road atlas handy in the car. Of course this is probably good advice when using any electronic navigation aid. The unit is good value considering all the maps that it has installed, especially if you purchase a refurbished unit (which I didn't see until after I had ordered it).

The usual Amazon service was good, unfortunately however, I have gone past the 30 day return limit, so I have to keep this one. I doubt that I will use it much.

I debated which GPS to get for weeks and researched for days. I even went so far as to post the question on Facebook to get others opinions. I'm glad I listened and got the Garmin. So far, it has been perfect. The directions are right on and if I miss a turn (or take another one because I still know where I am) it recalculates almost instantly. Glad I got the Garmin!!

 "What's in the box?" 2009-07-17
By Molaker (Cedarcreek, MO)
Actually, there is little wrong with the nuvi 255 I bought. It works well. But, what is included in the box is not well defined. What does "Video Power cable included" mean? I made an assumption that it was a USB cable and ordered an auto 12v adaptor with my 255 as Amazon stated it was "what others also ordered". Wrong! An auto 12v adaptor was included, but NO USB cable. If you look at the Amazon page describing the nuvi 255, a USB connection is mentioned many times. Programming the 255 with your computer is one of the main features. One would think Garmin would include a USB cable or at least Amazon would accurately indicate what is in the box. Bad grade - Garmin. Bad grade - Amazon

I wound up ordering a USB cable from a retailer on Amazon (AccessoriesZone). To pile more crap on, the cable I received was advertized for the nuvi 255, but did not fit. The Garmin end of the cable was wrong. AccessoriesZone is sending another USB cable, but there is no guarantee it will fit. In the meantime, I have 2 auto 12v adaptors and a bum USB cable.

I love the 255, but I feel Amazon and Garmin misled me on this one. The jury is still out for AccessoriesZone.

Good GPS but not as impresses as I thought I would be. I have an older Garmin and it actually seems to perform better than this unit. The three advantages of this unit are its size, the ability to "speak" street names, and better screen (does not wash out in sunlight as much).

If the choice is to pay $100 for a map upgrade or buy this unit, the choice is clearly to pay a little extra and get the 255.

"Great Features but Poor Routing" 2009-08-18
By averagepunter (Massachusetts)
I really wanted to like this Nuvi 755t, and for the most part I do. In the Boston area, Lane Assist and Junction View work well. The traffic information has proven useful on a number of occasions. The User Interface is simple and effective and there are a few display options that allow you to customise the information the appears on the screen. A nice touch is the inclusion of the speed limit for the road you are travelling on (Note: not available on all roads).

However, this is an automobile GPS unit. Its primary function is to get you from point A to point B as quickly as possible. All too often this is the downfall of this Garmin - it makes some very strange routing decisions. On many occasions it seems to have a preference for side/back roads over the faster highways. It seems to ignore the fact that these other roads have many stop signs and/or traffic lights that interrupt the flow of the traffic. On two instances in the past couple of days, it has routed me off a highway along a road with several sets of lights and then back onto the highway a couple miles later. It would have been much faster just to stay on the highway all the time. On another trip, it took me across South Boston instead of using the highways to the South or the North of that area. A 40min trip turned into an hour because of this poor routing. I have the unit set to pick the fastest route, not the shortest, and it does not seem to be up to the job - certainly not where roads with lots of traffic lights are involved.

I researched endlessly before buying this Nuvi so to some extent I knew what I was getting into. It seems these routing problems are widely reported but Garmin have so far failed to acknowledge there is a problem. I only hope they are working on a fix. In summary, it is a great unit if you use it primarily for leisure purposes, can put up with the occasional strange route and can take advantage of the new features. It will get you to where you want to go, sometimes it will do so efficiently, sometimes not, BUT...if I needed to use this for business purposes..well, Amazon would have already had it back.

 "Lane assist, traffic worthless." 2009-08-12
By AlexCartermom
We bought this unit right before we took a long road trip. Playing with it for a week around the Richmond, Va area we had difficulties.

NO Lane assist, Worthless traffic

The lane assist never showed up once despite going through numerous heavy interstate intersections (like I-95 and I-295). The traffic dot was almost always wrong. It showed yellow or red when the roads were empty and when traffic was bumper to bumper it showed green. It was a tiny dot, so even if the color would have been right it would have been worthless because you would not be able to see the dot if you were focusing on traffic. It would be more helpful if the voice had said "Approaching heavy traffic" but there is no audio cue. Several times it tried to take us down a road that does not exist (it's just woods).

When we left the Richmond area the traffic dot completely disappeared. This was not the middle of nowhere. This was I-95, yet no traffic info. No traffic info in Myrtle beach either. Of course we spent an hour standing in stopped traffic, so there was plenty of traffic, just no traffic info. No lane assist ever... not ever in Richmond, I-95 in North Carolina, South Carolina or anywhere in Myrtle Beach.

This GPS loved the scenic route

Then there was this odd thing that our unit did which I can only think had to be a defect. It literally sent us in circles. It would tell us to get off the interstate and send us through neighborhoods with 25 mph speed limits and lots of stops signs while we were paralleling the interstate. Tried all menu functions and it would still send us through neighborhoods instead of the perfectly good interstate paralleling. There were at least three times it literally sent us in circles. If it was a choice between a route with slower speed limits and lots of stoplights and another it always sent us the slower route. Yes, we tried all the menu settings. The GPS didn't care, it was choosing that route regardless of the menu setting.

Route was never consistent

Every night in Myrtle Beach we ate at the same mall area and then went back to our hotel. Never once did the GPS send us back to the hotel the same route and never once did it use the easy route. One night it took us 82nd Street, one night it took us 36th street, one night it took us 45th street, one night it took us 17th street. Never once did it take us the 17 bypass (the straight shot with no lights, higher speed limits).

It did not identify most stores

It is true we did find a couple of things with the GPS, however several times we were looking for a McDonalds or a Walgreens in Myrtle Beach only to be told the nearest one was 17 miles away, etc. So you can imagine our surprise when we passed one in just a few blocks. There was absolutely no record of the McDonalds or Walgreens that we had to find ourselves in the GPS data banks.

Summary

We had updated our software the day we received the unit and we still had problem after problem. I can't help but wonder if we didn't get a defective unit because of the sheer problems we had with route selection. However, I don't think Garmin has it together with Lane assist yet, so save your money and don't buy this feature. Maybe the traffic is useful elsewhere, but it was always wrong in Richmond. Clearly Garmin needs to update their store lists. Perhaps this type of thing is more useful in places like NY city, but you'll be on your own in places like Myrtle Beach. As you might guess, we returned this unit as soon as we returned from our trip.

"Not Worth the Money, Garmin Nuvi 755t" 2009-08-04
By T. Johnson
Garmin Nuvi 755t: At best, I rate this unit at one star.

This is my third GPS unit. My recent 9000 mile round trip vacation to Fairbanks, Alaska through 10 States and 5 Canadian Provinces was my first long trip with the 755t and my fifth multi-thousand mile road trip vacation with a GPS.

Every time I pulled off the route to fill up with fuel or take a rest break the 755t, though left powered on, would lose its mind and was just as likely to tell me to take a U-turn and backtrack my route as it was to have me go down side roads or non existent dirt roads. Seldom did it correctly direct me back to the route to my selected destination until being several thousand feet back on the route. It frequently had gas stations and restaurants on the wrong side of the road. We learned to ignore its incorrect directions after a stop.

The 755t does not display names of towns along the route - just a long purple line through empty space. It always had plenty of blank room on the screen to show city names, the Garmin designers decided we didn't need to see locations and names of cities along our route; they decided all we need to see is a long purple line. Watch the road signs, not the GPS screen for cities ahead. So if you happen to be driving the Alaskan Highway in Yukon Territory or British Columbia, forget about getting any indication from the 755t how far ahead the next town is or the 755t even identifying the name of a town as you approach and pass through it. It may automatically jump into a magnified view of city streets as you pass through, but will not indicate the name of the city. It also doesn't identify on the screen names of rivers or lakes you cross.

In the list of favorites or recently found addresses it doesn't bother giving the city or state/province name, just the street address - not very helpful when you are trying to keep tract of many attractions, hotels, etc in several cities and states. There is PLENTY of available blank space on the screen to list city names and state/province abbreviations, Garmin decided for us that we didn't need that information.

How bad is it? It is bad enough that the 755t doesn't contain information on locations of interstate rest stops or on State and Province Information Centers - better have good paper road maps if you want that info. In fact, if you buy a 755t for a cross country multi-state road trip contact the states/provinces you will be travelling through for free paper maps by mail - you'll need to frequently use the maps to supplement the 755t. Garmin, how about adding locations of interstate highway rest stops and state/province Information Centers and also identify if they have restroom facilities.

Reflections in the windshield: The 755t has a bright silver band around it - could be metal or maybe metalized plastic. When the unit is mounted to the windshield with the provided suction cup mount, the silver band on top of the unit reflects off the inside of the windshield into my eyes and the brighter the sunlight the brighter the reflection - should be flat black to eliminate reflections.

The release button on the mount: It's located on the bottom of the mount, the button ends up pressed against the dash top and as a result the 755t sometimes popped out of its mount. With the button on the bottom, the 755t was impossible to remove when the suction cup was mounted low on the windshield. To remove the 755t it was necessary to remove the suction cup from the windshield or snap the mount from the suction cup ball. Release button should have been put on the top of the GPS mount so you could easily remove the GPS from the windshield mount.

"Where To?" function: When you press the "Where To?" button it goes to two pages of options. There is a trick trap on the options pages. It is at the bottom labeled as "Near". Garmin decided for you that the unalterable default would be "Where I Am Now". "Where I Am Now" is useless when traveling on a rural cross country toll road or interstate highway where you want to find fuel, food, lodging etc along the route ahead, not behind you or in cities miles off the route to the side. This means that EVERY Time you use "Where To?" for "Points of Interest" you must remember to first select "Near" and press the button for "My Current Route" before selecting "Points of Interest".

The "Intersection" option for "Where To?" never did work for me, the 755t requires such exact lettering of street names that it would always fail to find one of the two street names entered.

The "Address" option for "Where To?" does not have a listing for the center of a city, so if you are trying to find rough mileage to a city you are forced to select some random exact address in the city. Garmin, how about adding "City Center" to the list of street names - the same city centers the states use to produce distance signs on roads. But, Wait. I just found a function on page two of the "Where To?" options pages labeled "Cities" which seems to provide distances to city centers. I typed in "Fargo" looking for distance to Fargo, ND. The 755t gave me a random list of 14 cities in 12 states named Fargo, not in order by distance from my location, nor in order of state names - just a five page random list I had to scroll through to find Fargo, ND. Good Grief, looks like Garmin could list cities in distance or state name order.

The Touch Screen "buttons": Get a stylus. I found the QWERTY screen impossible to use without a stylus. On other screens the "buttons" are so small with SO LITTLE DEAD SPACE between buttons that I was constantly activating an adjacent button by mistake. Yes, I calibrated button clicks - may times. Garmin must have designed the 755t for users with pencil thin fingers.

Garmin only gives you one overarching option for units of measure, miles or kilometers. When driving in Canada I would have liked to have been able to display speed in Kilometers per hour (KPH) and elevation in feet rather than in meters and distance to destination in miles rather than kilometers. That way I would have had a digital speedometer in KPH but have been able to view elevation and distance in familiar units of measure.

Traffic worked once - in Kansas City, MO - information was old - there was no traffic congestion.

Lanes function did show up for exits I wasn't taking. Never saw it for my exits.

The 755t is a big disappointment and is definitely not worth the $320+ I paid.

 "Garmin Nuvii 755" 2009-07-25
By Andrew P. Sopko (New Carlisle, IN)
I recently purchased/up graded to a nuvii 755 GPS for an up coming out west vacation. I used Garmin software named Map Source to plan out the 5000 mile trip with way points and stops along the way. We left from NW Indiana and the trip out to Arizona with the nuvii went flawlessly and it followed the program route to a tee. However on the return trip across many miles of open land and indian reservations it didn't do so well and kept straying from the pre programed route. Also upon startup of each new day we had to go through a number of steps to get back to the start of our route for that day. Other than these minor problems the product has many welcomed improvements over the older versions. Mabe with more usage I will be able to gain the knowledge as to overcome these problems.

"Nice unit for the price" 2009-08-18
By Soccer Coach (Lansdale, PA)
This is my second GPS, a replacement after my Magellian died. The Magellian lasted about two years.

Again I decided to purchase a entry level model becasue of price. The Garmin is a nice unit for the price. One reason why I decided on this unit was because it had maps of the US and Canada. It also was rated a best by in a leading consumer magazine.

The main feature that I like in this unit over my previous GPS is the navigation system. I was impressed on a recent trip in which I found myself in traffic congestion due to construction. Using the detour feature, the unit got me off of the interstate highway and onto country roads and around the traffic backup.

That being said, the Magellain had a more freindly user interface. I liked the Magellian user interface better.

However, the basic reason you purchase a GPS is for navigation. So I would recommend this unit as a good entry level navigation system.

Plus: Good Navigation, ability to update firmware and maps from Garmin web site.

Cons, user interface is not as nice as my first unit, but it does the job.

"The GPS can not do search" 2009-08-17
By Jason Lee (Reno, USA)
The GPS can not do search. It take very long time to find place 200 miles away from my location.

For example, if you type "tire", it will find tire store 200 miles from my home.

The one I brought two years ago can do all the search But that GPS some have problem for the touch screen.

So that I need to put two GPS at same car.

"I would expect more from a Garmin product." 2009-08-17
By Nelson Espinal
This GPS system is good for the price. I had my time comparing GPS devices below the USD$100.00 and I found this one on a 'hot deal' here.

Pros:

-Small

-Good price

-Bilingual (English/Spanish)

-Loud speaker

-Pedestrian mode

Cons:

-Lack of headphones jack

-Lack of text-to-speech functionality

-Favorites get lost after soft-reset

-Soft reset often required after couple of days without use.

-It has a lag to obtain satellites so DON'T try to use it unless waiting couple of minutes before it gets signal.

"Too bad, the Garmin nuvi 250 has some very nice features" 2009-08-16
By Claro Evangelista (New York City)
I bought Garmin nuvi 250 for my bicycle (the nuvi 200 series has a very nice bicycle mount available) after getting lost in Brooklyn, but checked to see how it works when using it for driving. The unit I got seems defective. You can't program the unit without stopping and waiting for a signal to lock on. It constantly loses its signal even on bright sunny days. And when you lose signal while driving, the only way for me to lock on a signal was to pull over the side and wait for it. I also lose signal when going under the bridge. I compared it to my old Garmin StreetPilot c580 and the c580 was much better in acquiring a signal and I can change destinations on the fly. I returned the unit and replaced it with a TomTom 140s which is much better when it comes to acquiring a signal. Too bad the Garmin nuvi 250 has very good features for the money like 5 hour battery life when unplug, perfect for biking, the TomTom only has 3 hours. But if it is unable to acquire a signal reliably, it is useless. My boss has the Garmin nuvi 265T and she is very happy with it. I thought about returning the unit and exchanging for the same model but after reading the reviews here, the signal issue is quite common so I bought the TomTom instead.

 "underwhelmed" 2009-08-16
By J. Murphy (Smyrna, De.)
Unit worked great for about a month, then could not locate satellites and shut down. Would not restart. Sent the unit back to Garmin, they repaired or replaced it. Used the unit for about a week after getting it back from Garmin and it would not locate satellites again. Hooked it to pc and updated firmware and maps and software. Seems to be working ok now. I have lost some confidence in it. Once in a while it takes me to a place that is a bit off of the destination I input, and there have been times it has told me to go the wrong way on a one way street. Also since I updated the unit ( the replaced unit from Garmiin) there has been no traffic icon showing, not sure what happened to that. I have a Garmin 7200, and a Garmin Nuvi 255 that I bought when my Nuvi 765 stopped working in florida, and they both work great. I am disappointed in this 765T. Also one reason I bought the 765T is for the bluetooth and my wife's phone, a very popular LG, is not supported. This purchase makes me really leary of spending more for a Garmin with more features in the future. I really hope Garmin works the bugs out because I really do like the Garmin units better than Tom Tom or Magellan. Lane assist only worked once for me, but it was a nice feature.

 "Garmin nui 765T Review" 2009-08-13
By KCart104 (Woodbridge, VA United States)
The unit is fairly decent. However, it's not without its problems. After downloading the latest maps, on a recent trip to Philadelphia, "Evelyn" (our name for the GPS) had a complete meltdown, telling us to turn right and left at the same intersection. We were sent in increasingly larger circles and getting to where we wanted to go took a half hour instead of the 7 or 8 minutes it should have taken. The Bluetooth is barely acceptable and the FM traffic receiver hasn't worked yet. After a call to Garmin, we were told we weren't close enough to the city. Since that time, we've been within three miles of the city and it still isn't working.

The one really nice feature is the Lane Guidance which shows you exactly what the exit looks like.

 "Good purchase" 2009-08-08
By Kay Odashima (Boston, MA United States)
I am completely satisfied with this purchase. It gets me where I need to go and makes looking at large cumbersome maps unecessary. The only complaint I have is that it doesn't necessarily give you the fastest route. It sometimes navigates me on small roads when I could have taken a highway and made fewer turns and stops. That said, there's no way you can get lost with this on board.

"They should concentrate less on flash and more on function" 2009-08-08
By R. Balsover (SF, California)
I have owned the GPS for something like a month now, the unit has a bright screen that I have no problem seeing in direct sunlight, the audio is clear and it seems to find the addresses that I have asked from it. I read a few of the other reviews and I don't see a problem with battery life, it lasts until I get to work which takes upto 45 minutes unlike the 15 someone else was complaining about. The Jill voice can say the words 'off ramp' without problems so those people are probably having problems with their unit that may not be seen by you if you purchase this unit. The GPS lock seems to be fast enough, but sometimes I miss turns because it can't update my location fast enough on city streets so I can't depend on the speech and need to look for street signs which can be hard to find and part of the reason why I purchased this unit in the first place. I see that it will place 3d images and photos of buildings on the display to help me find my bearings, but I have never seen it use this feature. My biggest complaint with this unit is that it can't find the fastest route. I have tried all of the routing options and with small variations it still makes the same mistake. The route that it gives me to go to work and back is different for the way there and the way back; there is no difference in the streets/traffic of those two routes but if they are the 'fastest' then shouldn't they be the same? Actually, neither of them is the fastest. My office is maybe two minutes from the freeway on city streets. The route that the GPS wants me to take while it may be a shorter distance takes 10 more minutes than if I took the freeway route because it takes me on city streets, through school zone and numerous traffic lights. The really stupid thing is that when I ignore it's recommondations and take the highway route after recalculating when I am on freeway it updates the estimated time of arrival to being 5 minutes faster than the 'fastest' route that it originally selected for me so it was able to see that the route that I selected would be faster. What is the point of having a faster route function if it can't figure it out? If I need to ignore it's fastest rout feature then I can't take advantage of it's ability to reroute me because of traffic issues because I will just think that it is making another poor decision.

This unit is over priced for what it does. I don't care about 3d displays of buildings if it can't find the fastest route for me.
