 "underwhelmed" 2009-08-16
By J. Murphy (Smyrna, De.)
Unit worked great for about a month, then could not locate satellites and shut down. Would not restart. Sent the unit back to Garmin, they repaired or replaced it. Used the unit for about a week after getting it back from Garmin and it would not locate satellites again. Hooked it to pc and updated firmware and maps and software. Seems to be working ok now. I have lost some confidence in it. Once in a while it takes me to a place that is a bit off of the destination I input, and there have been times it has told me to go the wrong way on a one way street. Also since I updated the unit ( the replaced unit from Garmiin) there has been no traffic icon showing, not sure what happened to that. I have a Garmin 7200, and a Garmin Nuvi 255 that I bought when my Nuvi 765 stopped working in florida, and they both work great. I am disappointed in this 765T. Also one reason I bought the 765T is for the bluetooth and my wife's phone, a very popular LG, is not supported. This purchase makes me really leary of spending more for a Garmin with more features in the future. I really hope Garmin works the bugs out because I really do like the Garmin units better than Tom Tom or Magellan. Lane assist only worked once for me, but it was a nice feature.

 "Garmin nui 765T Review" 2009-08-13
By KCart104 (Woodbridge, VA United States)
The unit is fairly decent. However, it's not without its problems. After downloading the latest maps, on a recent trip to Philadelphia, "Evelyn" (our name for the GPS) had a complete meltdown, telling us to turn right and left at the same intersection. We were sent in increasingly larger circles and getting to where we wanted to go took a half hour instead of the 7 or 8 minutes it should have taken. The Bluetooth is barely acceptable and the FM traffic receiver hasn't worked yet. After a call to Garmin, we were told we weren't close enough to the city. Since that time, we've been within three miles of the city and it still isn't working.

The one really nice feature is the Lane Guidance which shows you exactly what the exit looks like.

 "Good purchase" 2009-08-08
By Kay Odashima (Boston, MA United States)
I am completely satisfied with this purchase. It gets me where I need to go and makes looking at large cumbersome maps unecessary. The only complaint I have is that it doesn't necessarily give you the fastest route. It sometimes navigates me on small roads when I could have taken a highway and made fewer turns and stops. That said, there's no way you can get lost with this on board.

"They should concentrate less on flash and more on function" 2009-08-08
By R. Balsover (SF, California)
I have owned the GPS for something like a month now, the unit has a bright screen that I have no problem seeing in direct sunlight, the audio is clear and it seems to find the addresses that I have asked from it. I read a few of the other reviews and I don't see a problem with battery life, it lasts until I get to work which takes upto 45 minutes unlike the 15 someone else was complaining about. The Jill voice can say the words 'off ramp' without problems so those people are probably having problems with their unit that may not be seen by you if you purchase this unit. The GPS lock seems to be fast enough, but sometimes I miss turns because it can't update my location fast enough on city streets so I can't depend on the speech and need to look for street signs which can be hard to find and part of the reason why I purchased this unit in the first place. I see that it will place 3d images and photos of buildings on the display to help me find my bearings, but I have never seen it use this feature. My biggest complaint with this unit is that it can't find the fastest route. I have tried all of the routing options and with small variations it still makes the same mistake. The route that it gives me to go to work and back is different for the way there and the way back; there is no difference in the streets/traffic of those two routes but if they are the 'fastest' then shouldn't they be the same? Actually, neither of them is the fastest. My office is maybe two minutes from the freeway on city streets. The route that the GPS wants me to take while it may be a shorter distance takes 10 more minutes than if I took the freeway route because it takes me on city streets, through school zone and numerous traffic lights. The really stupid thing is that when I ignore it's recommondations and take the highway route after recalculating when I am on freeway it updates the estimated time of arrival to being 5 minutes faster than the 'fastest' route that it originally selected for me so it was able to see that the route that I selected would be faster. What is the point of having a faster route function if it can't figure it out? If I need to ignore it's fastest rout feature then I can't take advantage of it's ability to reroute me because of traffic issues because I will just think that it is making another poor decision.

This unit is over priced for what it does. I don't care about 3d displays of buildings if it can't find the fastest route for me.

Garmin has made its name in the market with impressive upadtes in its Nuvi range of GPS navigation systems. The Nuvi 765T has a decent design. It has satisfying features. It has animated menus with qwerty keyboard and the touch screen is also good. I like the feature of Oxford University Press Language Guide. For more details refer garmin nuvi 765t gps
