 "garmin support is horrible" 2009-08-19
By J. Boles (Ga)
touch screen stopped working (unit still turns on and loads maps)called garmin ,of course for $99 they will troubleshoot and advise as to cost to fix.unit is in pristine condition ,looks exactly as it did when purchased ...no drops,or left in vehicle especially window due to thefts, so it has been well taken care of.garmin can not (will not)say what could be happening with a unit in this great shape but otherwise useless

"Garmin 750 - Best thing since sliced bread" 2009-08-11
By Sherial Bradley (Arkansas)
Purchased the Garmin 750 in July 2009. Unit arrived quickly, instructions were easy to use. We've traveled in both very rural areas and very urban areas and it worked perfectly. On a weekend trip to Nashville we merely stored all of the hotels, resturants, shopping areas, and tourist destinations we needed prior to leaving home in the favorites. Regardless of where we were, we just pressed the hotel favorite or other favorite we needed and the Garmin directed us right to the destination. On a weekend trip to a small southern town, I needed to go to Wal-mart. I merely selected shopping and keyed in Wal-mart, the unit gave me a list of stores and the distance. I made my selection and was good to go. We've considered purchasing one for quite some time - why did we put if off! The voice is pleasant, the destination time is handy, and the speed limit display is very helpful.

 "I'm everywhere I want to be..." 2009-07-31

The Good:

- Everything you'd expect from a Garmin, good interface and fairly intuitive.

- Was wary about the loss of external antenna when Garmin went from the 6xx series to the 7xx. But I have never lost satellite lock, not even inside my house while programming it.

- Plenty of POIs, great for finding a familiar restaurant or store when working on the road.

- Seems to learn your usual driving speed over time and calculates destination times accordingly.

- Built in speaker is more than adequate

- Customer service (see below)

The Bad:

- FM Transmitter is weak.

- Be sure to check its planned route first before leaving, like anything that generates directions it can throw you a curve once in a while. This is the exception.

- Check Garmin's online maps before updating your unit. Their map supplier missed a fairly large new bypass that opened a couple years ago that still wasn't in the 2009 update. Their cartography department was quick to reply when I inquired about it though. (It will be there in the 2010 update).

 "Mixed feelings" 2009-07-27
By Ron Cronovich (Kenosha, WI)
I purchased this Garmin 750 about 6 months ago, to replace a Garmin 650 that was stolen. I loved the 650. The 750 adds a few features (the most useful of which is constructing a route with multiple destinations). However, overall I am a bit disappointed, for two reasons:

1) The first time you turn it on after not using it for a while, it takes a long time to acquire satellites. By "long," I mean 3-5 minutes. Very frustrating. Fortunately, if you stop briefly in the middle of a road trip, it acquires satellites pretty quickly after turning it back on.

2) The screen is not as bright as my Garmin 650. I am actually on my 2nd 750: I returned the first one because the screen was very dim. The second one is much better by comparison with the first, but noticeably dimmer than the 650. This is a bit of an inconvenience when you're driving in bright sunlight, and when you're driving in the evening - late enough for the unit to shift to night mode, but before it's actually fully dark outside.

Otherwise, the Nuvi 750 functions fine. It chooses routes very well, its navigation features are intuitive and very useful (like with all the Nuvi line), the build quality is good and the suction mount to the windshield is very secure - even going over big bumps and rough roads, the Nuvi stays mounted pretty well. I've researched GPS units from other companies and prefer the Garmin Nuvi series, I will get another Nuvi when it's time to replace this one.

I'm wondering if Garmin's quality control is inconsistent, because many of the reviews here are very favorable, while many others cite problems such as mine.

My advice: find the Nuvi with the right mix of features you want and need, and buy it from a reputable place with a good return policy (like Amazon), then use it around town for a week or two. Hopefully, you'll get a good one, but if not you'll be able to return it for a replacement.

 "An amazing tool" 2009-07-12
By The two of us (Minneapolis, MN)
I purchased the GPS for my daughter who has difficulty finding her way from point A to B. After she used it for a short period of time, she told me that the GPS was invented for her. It is very easy to use and it is accurate. This is the second one I purchased from Amazon. I reccommend this item.
