"Nice unit for the price" 2009-08-18
By Soccer Coach (Lansdale, PA)
This is my second GPS, a replacement after my Magellian died. The Magellian lasted about two years.

Again I decided to purchase a entry level model becasue of price. The Garmin is a nice unit for the price. One reason why I decided on this unit was because it had maps of the US and Canada. It also was rated a best by in a leading consumer magazine.

The main feature that I like in this unit over my previous GPS is the navigation system. I was impressed on a recent trip in which I found myself in traffic congestion due to construction. Using the detour feature, the unit got me off of the interstate highway and onto country roads and around the traffic backup.

That being said, the Magellain had a more freindly user interface. I liked the Magellian user interface better.

However, the basic reason you purchase a GPS is for navigation. So I would recommend this unit as a good entry level navigation system.

Plus: Good Navigation, ability to update firmware and maps from Garmin web site.

Cons, user interface is not as nice as my first unit, but it does the job.

"The GPS can not do search" 2009-08-17
By Jason Lee (Reno, USA)
The GPS can not do search. It take very long time to find place 200 miles away from my location.

For example, if you type "tire", it will find tire store 200 miles from my home.

The one I brought two years ago can do all the search But that GPS some have problem for the touch screen.

So that I need to put two GPS at same car.

"I would expect more from a Garmin product." 2009-08-17
By Nelson Espinal
This GPS system is good for the price. I had my time comparing GPS devices below the USD$100.00 and I found this one on a 'hot deal' here.

Pros:

-Small

-Good price

-Bilingual (English/Spanish)

-Loud speaker

-Pedestrian mode

Cons:

-Lack of headphones jack

-Lack of text-to-speech functionality

-Favorites get lost after soft-reset

-Soft reset often required after couple of days without use.

-It has a lag to obtain satellites so DON'T try to use it unless waiting couple of minutes before it gets signal.

"Too bad, the Garmin nuvi 250 has some very nice features" 2009-08-16
By Claro Evangelista (New York City)
I bought Garmin nuvi 250 for my bicycle (the nuvi 200 series has a very nice bicycle mount available) after getting lost in Brooklyn, but checked to see how it works when using it for driving. The unit I got seems defective. You can't program the unit without stopping and waiting for a signal to lock on. It constantly loses its signal even on bright sunny days. And when you lose signal while driving, the only way for me to lock on a signal was to pull over the side and wait for it. I also lose signal when going under the bridge. I compared it to my old Garmin StreetPilot c580 and the c580 was much better in acquiring a signal and I can change destinations on the fly. I returned the unit and replaced it with a TomTom 140s which is much better when it comes to acquiring a signal. Too bad the Garmin nuvi 250 has very good features for the money like 5 hour battery life when unplug, perfect for biking, the TomTom only has 3 hours. But if it is unable to acquire a signal reliably, it is useless. My boss has the Garmin nuvi 265T and she is very happy with it. I thought about returning the unit and exchanging for the same model but after reading the reviews here, the signal issue is quite common so I bought the TomTom instead.
