i recently used this garmin in london, where in fact it is even more accurate in road selection than in the new york area. It has speed camera locations in addition in england, an added bonus. it does not have text to speech (so i deduct a star) , but at this price u r getting 2 continents of maps for free!

Bought Nuvi 270 specifically for trip through Germany. Drove 1700km using it for primary navigation with map backup. I have experience using GPS by tom tom and Navman for road travel in North America. This unit is nice and compact but feels solidly built. It captured signal and location quickly. Data base was quite complete with country roads that see as much tractor traffic as cars present. Display and user interface as good as or beter than the other 2 units I use. One map glitch where it showed a traffic circle and there was none - big deal. 2 hard to interpret situations misled me but rerouted pretty well. 1 comic situation when it gave us about 540 degrees of turn lefts in a row. I don't speak German and this unit made driving much easier than last trip 6 years ago. Helps alot if you know specific addresses of your destinations or at least postal code.

I had been looking for a GPS for quite some time and after talking to friends they said that Garmin is the best brand. I was looking for something easy to use and at a great price, which is why I decided on the nuvi 270.I'm not going to be travelling overseas so all I needed it for was to be able to travel interstate without using mapquest. The instructions were good but really the nuvi is so easy to use that instrutions really aren't need. I love the touch screen and the size and I would definately recommend this GPS to anyone who just needs something easy to use to get them from A to B.

I use this GPS when I travel inside or outside the US. I carry it in my laptop bag. Last week we rented a car in the UK and it worked flawlessly. When we got back to the US, I put it in a rental car and it worked on this side of the Atlantic. It is a refurbished unit and it was very inexpensive. I purchased it because it covers all of Europe and North America. It doesn't have all the features the expensive units have, but it always finds what I am looking for. Overall- a great value for the price.

I am a commercial pilot and quite familiar with using GPS (including Garmin aviation products).



This is the second nuvi I have owned. I sent the first one back (which only had the USA / Canada maps) for the same reasons as highlighted in this review of the 270.



On vacation in the UK recently this unit proved (once again) to be very inconsistent in calculating routes. There is only two options (fastest and shortest) but the unit takes the route that it feels like taking and quite often it is the longest and slowest.



It does not seem to realize that a motorway has a 70 mph speed limit and an A road has a 60 mph speed limit (which often only averages about 40 mph due to roundabouts, traffic lights and congestion).



Occasionally the unit will suggest a turn off the route that it has calculated only to recalculate and send you back to the same route via a roundabout or u turn! Quite mad.



If you use this very basic unit I suggest that you familiarize yourself with the routes available before departure and keep a road atlas handy in the car. Of course this is probably good advice when using any electronic navigation aid. The unit is good value considering all the maps that it has installed, especially if you purchase a refurbished unit (which I didn't see until after I had ordered it).



The usual Amazon service was good, unfortunately however, I have gone past the 30 day return limit, so I have to keep this one. I doubt that I will use it much.
