It is the same as the case for the Rino 110. I really would like Garmin to offer a clip on case for the belt rather one which I have to unfasten my belt to attach. Sometimes my pants drop when my belt is unfastened. Velcro would be nicer than the zipper. But, all in all, it does the job intended.

I thought this is what I wanted, now I'm not so sure.



I bought it for a few reasons;



I sail and wanted to be able to call for help if I needed to but there is no chanel 16 (help channel)on this unit.



I also wanted the gps so I could find my way back in the fog. despite reading the two booklets and playing with the unit I'm still cant seem to figure out how to use it.



So, I'm now looking for a proper marine radio so I can call for help.



I guess this old sea dog is just too old to figure out this new tech stuff

This item is simply a walkie-talkie that locates others of its own kind and shows you your position relating to dots (waypoints). No maps. No elevation graphics. Not even roads. I'm sure the newer models are much better, but how hi-tech can something be when it only has one Meg of on board memory. I had no idea an item from 2006 could be so outdated by now. This would only be useful for locating others in a hunting party who also have a rino. My nuvi auto gps does more on the trail than this does. I'm a hiker and I'm pretty sorry I wasted three years worth of my wife's safety incentive points on this thing. I will try to send it back, but I may be stuck with a huge digital compass that runs on 3 AAs.

 "NOT Waterproof" 2009-07-23

Used the unit once! I have 3 Garmin Products, two Vehicle GPS and one Personal Wrist Watch GPS, Have always been happy with the company until now. Purchased the unit and went out Kayaking once with it, conditions were windy to calm with some splashing water. When I went to change the batteries I discovered that Water got into the battery compartment, shocked because the unit is advertised as waterproof but should not be too shocked after seeing the thin seal on the compartment. Called Garmin expecting excellent support, as I said I own multiple Garmin Products and have been pleased until now. I was told by the Tech support people that although it is rated waterproof it is only is it is "standing" water and up to 1 meter. Apparently splashing water can be forced into the back and damage the unit. IT WAS NOT COVERED by warranty and was told to get a return from the retailer. Extremely dissatisfied customer and will think twice when buying another Garmin product.

I have had this for a year now and it works great. Matches ACU color. I would buy the 430 or 420 with the color screen but I don't need the color screen. I haven't downloaded any new base maps but I intend to do so at some point before a deployment. If you want a cheap GPS to give you MGRS grids, purchase the Foretrex not Forerunner. The Forerunner is only for lon/lat. So unless you are a flyboy and you want a cheaper, smaller unit get the Garmin Foretrex. I would like to get another unit that has an MMC slot, currently the only ones that have that are the E-Trex and some other models.



Overall it is a great item.

After reading all of the online reviews here on Amazon, and on the manufacturer's web site, I decided to purchase the units and judge for myself. I had been planning a trip to the Michigan sand dunes, and thought it would be nice for safety to have at least two units in case any member of my family got lost, or seperated during the trip.



Within the first few hours of using the units, we learned a few of it's idiosyncrocies. One thing you have to know is that the units must have time to "locate" at least 4 satellites before it will accurately report location info. The time required can vary, depending on the environment. Terrain with buildings, or other barriers, natural or otherwise, will increase the time required for the unit to "lock-in" satellites.



Once the unit's find the satellites needed for self-navigation, the unit works without much intervention. My 14 year-old son was able to learn how to use the tracking-navigation feature within a couple of hours of tickering with the unit.



Out in the field, my 14 year-old son made a miscalculation, and ended up in a chest-high pond of water, with him, his ATV, and the Garmin Rino 130 fully submerged for about 3 minutes. After the initial panic of making sure he was ok, and removing the water-logged ATV from the water, we immediately checked the Rino 130, and it was still working great. However, the external PTT microphone that is sold as an accessory did not survive the plunge.



The unit works so well, and is so simple to use, it can seem almost "toy-like" until you realize how much data it keeps track of at one time. Once I initiated the "tracking" feature for the other two units I purchased, it maintained location data for the duration of the trip, without any further manipulation. I was actually stunned by the simplicity of locating any of the units, even standing still. Although the compass feature works better when moving, it is still very accurate in a fixed location under the right conditions.



Overall, I would recommend this unit for anyone needing basic communication and GPS capability. The Radio was a bit under-powered in my opinion, but they were suitable for short distances in wooded areas. Near some metro areas, RF interference is definitely a problem, but that's no fault of the unit. Many of the people who have complained about this unit seem to either have received a defective unit, or don't like to read manuals.

The Rino 120 allows you, at an affordable price to know where you are in the world, where your buddies are as well and to have on-going conversation. The unit performs as advertised. I used the Rino on a game bird hunt in rugged eastern Oregon. Our party was at times a couple miles apart and separated by some deep ravines and high ridges. Sound transmission was great. Battery life seems good. The only thing to remember is to check in at intervals so that your location will continue to update on the map. The perfect tool to stay in contact and stay safe.

I bought this item for my brother, who lives in the Rockies and does quite a bit of hunting, fishing and four-wheeling in the woods. He told me that this little gem has probably saved his life at least twice since he's gotten it. He's gotten lost in the forest a few times and has used the unit to get his maps to decipher his location, plus call our other brother to get his location after getting separated. You have the GPS with the ability to send your location to other GPS units and a radio to talk to other walkie talkies on 22 communication channels. The good news is I already have 4 other walkie talkies that mate with this GPS. I love it for GEOCACHING and my 7 year old grandson can use it.



There are Icons for special places in the GPS marking menu. This is my second Garmin Rino; the other is a Rino 130. The only draw back is the monochrome display can be difficult in low level light for us seasoned citizens. You kids will have no problem; I'll get my glasses.

I have now owned two of these. I like this unit a lot. The first one had issues with the radio transmission and I waited a little to long I guess and Garmin would do nothing. The same issue happened to one of my guides at the same time and Garmin fixed his. I sold the unit to a guy who did not care about the radio part, so I got the HCx. As a GPS it is very good with a simple user interface. I would recommend it for anyone going into the field.

I bought two of these radios for my family to use. We hiked in the mountain with them and they worked great. If you want to use the GMRS radio channels you have to purchase a License from the FCC. The NOAA weather radio is a great addition to this GPS radio... The base map is fine for normal nav, but I spent the extra money and bought the topo map for the region I am in. Garmin Rino is a very good high end product and the price for it is well worth it...

I received the GPS, and the speaker was broken. Amazon ship the order fine and I received it with out damage to the box. It work fine in every other way.
