 "Delivery and Performance" 2009-07-13
By Richard J. Hicks (Waverly , Iowa)
I ordered this product and it was shipped on June 14 and was supposed to be rcvd by June 18. When it was not received yet on June 22, I sent a request to trace and rcvd back an answer to wait until June 29. On the 28th , I sent another request that said I didn't think I was going to rcv it and they sent another unit which I rcvd in 3 days. Never did get the first unit. I believe the first unit must have been ripped off in the mailing process. I did appreciate the fact that there was not arguments about shipping the second unit, because at that point I really wondered how it would be dealt with. Good Job!

On a lighter not, I am very satisfied with the gps. I haven't had it very long , but so far have been very satisfied with the features etc. Hope it maintains that satisfaction.

"Refurbished is not a bad word" 2009-05-26
By P. Scherzer (Maine USA)
Yes, I had to return the first refurbished 760 -- it failed in the first hour of use. However, Amazon made the exchange simple and speedy. This second unit is working very well. What surprises me is the accuracy and detail of the data base. I found that a route of just a few blocks that I had come to use habitually was longer than the route advised by the Garmin 760. That may not always be so because of construction or other road conditions, but it is still reassuring in general. The verbal turn directions and graphic display are very clear, and the directions to prepare for the next turn (what lane to use) is very helpful.

 "Great but overkill." 2009-05-16
By M. McIntosh
I used the product comparison for this unit and thought it was the best for the money. Didn't need the European map in the 770. I'm dissapointed in the FM transmitter. Not real clear and cumbersome to use. Same with the Bluetooth feature. Speaker isn't the quality it needs to be useful. People on the other end can hear 'ok' but it's too distorted to be used practically everyday. Would have bought one less expensive without the Bluetooth and FM transmitter if I had it to do all over again. Overall, very pleased with it!

"How did I live without it?" 2009-05-12
By T. Anderson (Detroit, MI USA)
Very nice clear screen, voice can be set to come out the car radio speakers, audio books available. The book mutes itself and backs up a little bit when the talking directions come on. The bluetooth allows the voice of a cellphone call to come out your speakers too. It worked ok but I never use that feature. My husband bought a chip with another map on it. Another cool thing is it has a whole phone book in it with phone numbers and addresses. I have used that several times and called ahead on errands. My only complaint is the battery length seems a little short, use the cigarette power point cord. When you plug in the cord the voice is nice and loud too. The other negative item is when you try to use it as a picture viewer, you put put the pictures on the chip and then it is really slow to load the pictures to view them. This is the only poor thing about the Garmin and it is not what this tool is supposed to be good at. At what it is supposed to do, finding directions, it is great. I couldn't live without it.

"Traffic feature disappointing at best" 2009-08-24
By Nichole (Ann Arbor, Michigan)
Overall, I am a bit disappointed by this GPS unit. The reason why I chose the 760 was the traffic integration. I must say, the traffic is awful! I guess I just expected so much more. There have been times where I have checked the traffic on my route to have it show up as green and clear, then 2 miles up the road there are cars stopped on the freeway for several miles. That isn't very green and clear to me! I wish I had not spent the extra $50 and just purchased a non-traffic unit. This unit is definitely not worth the extra money.

 "It works great" 2009-08-24
By Mike Z. (New Jersey)
I've used this GPS about a half dozen times now on trips of varying lengths and it's always given reasonable directions. It may not be the same route you would select if you were familiar with the area, but it selects a reasonable path and guides you along. The screen is bright enough to see during sunny days and the audio announcements are clear and understandable. When I received the unit I plugged it into my computer via the USB port and after pointing my browser to the Garmin site the software and the maps were both updated. It couldn't have been easier and, I haven't noticed any missing streets at all so far. This is my first GPS so I can't compare it to others but it does what I expected it to do very well, so I can recommend it to anyone else looking to pick up a new GPS.

 "Garmin Nuvi760" 2009-08-23
By Shelley (New York)
This is my first GPS so overall I am very pleased with my Garmin nuvi 760 GPS system. The screen is bright and it is easy to use. I have two problems, however, that I can't seem to fix. Firstly, it often happens that when I turning on the GPS, I get no voice even though it was set previously. Secondly, this GPS was supposed to come with free traffic alerts for three months, but it doesn't seem to work and thus I would never order it. It seems to be a total waste. Nevertheless, I would definitely recommend this GPS. In fact, I like it so much, I ordered one for my daughter.

 "Garmin Nuvi 760" 2009-08-23
By K L (Green Bay, WI)
I have had this unit for about 1 1/2 years. So far the unit itself works very good. The mapping quality on the other hand is not very good in my opinion. We used it on a road trip last year and it showed us driving in a field because the road had been relocated and the mapping had not been updated. The road was at least 3 years old. I worked in road constuction for 35+ years so I am a pretty good judge of road age.

It is pathetic that I had to pay as much as I did for the Garmin to get such old mapping in a unit that had only been on the market for a short time.

 "Love my GPS" 2009-08-23
By N. Marple
It is a year old model, so there are a couple features that are different than a newer model but that's ok with me. I would rather buy a year old model then pay more money. I love having a GPS. And I love that it has a bluetooth to it. THat is so nice to have. Have tried the music part yet ... but will.

"Gar-min down the road of life...." 2009-08-14
By N. Morrow (Palm Springs, CA)
We've had our Garmin Nuvi 760 a few months now....it's great. Had a Magellan before, but the Garmin just has perks we like better, like the map overview. We would willingly recommend this product to anyone. Garmin customer service is awesome as well, in case you might wonder. We had a question about changing the voice and they just sweetly led us through the steps of how to do that.

 "Great Travel Guide!" 2009-08-11
By J. McWhirter (Indianapolis, IN)
I love my New Garmin 760!

I bought this right before a scheduled driving trip to Florida from Indiana.

We had plans of vacationing in Orlando.

Not only did it guide us everywhere we needed to go, but it also guided us to places we wanted to see along the route.

I highly recommend purchasing one if you are looking to buy a GPS.

You won't be sorry!

I read other reviews about this product, and those that gave it a negative review just didn't take the time to play with it first.

"be careful before your order this device" 2009-08-11
By D. Stemmler (Baltimore)
I cannot rate the performance of the Nuvi 760 very well, but I can tell you about Garmin's service.

First of all, documentation is terribly inadequate.

As part of the service, purchasers are entitled to a free map update. That is where the problem started. It takes forever to download the installer. After that, you must download the map file and unzip it. Then you need to transfer this enormous file into your Garmin device. According to the screen message, this could take up to two hours.

Time after time, my transfer failed at 54%. I wrote to tech support. Not much help. I called tech support. This process takes hours. I was transferred to a higher level tech support. Still, no progress. The last techie said to send the device back and get another. Fortunately made the exchange very easy and fast.

Now I had a fresh GPS device. Same problem. Tach support apparently only reads parts of the letter. They ignore important passages. Still not help. FINALLY, I recieved a response from a sympathetic tech support guy. He said that I should try the usb port on the back of machine, not the front. I had already done that days ago. He also said to check the USB chipset. If they did not say "Intel," they may not work with the Nuvi. I checked the chips and they did not mention Intel. I guess that is the problem. The techie wrote that I should try another computer.

Had someone told me this weeks ago, I would have saved a lot of time and money. Why does not tech support share this information?

I am using an HP Pavilion 1730n with AMD Athlon dual core with 2 gigs of ram. A fairly competent machine. So, I will send this Nuvi 760 back.
