If you put in shortest distance for a route, this guy will take you over hill and dale and on roads only barely wide enough for a small car, so it's best to use fastest route or, as we did, put in towns that are near to your present location and a road that you wish to travel. We also used the GPS while walking, and it worked flawlessly. I will never travel again without the GPS. Friends that we visited in Germany were awed by the accuracy of the GPS and are going to buy one.

I purchased the Garmin City Navigator Europe for a trip to Ireland. It was definitely a good investment. Driving without it would have been a nerve wracking experience. It quickly recalculated a missed turn, and had all the little lanes and roads on the map. My only complaint is that when I loaded it after purchase (9/2009), it said that it was not the most current version, and that I should update on the Garmin website. I didn't bother to do that, and on the trip I found myself on some new roads that weren't on the map. It didn't cause me any trouble, but I would recommend updating for anyone who buys this product.

The Euro version of the Garmin worked well for us in France - with the same caveats as US - GPS can put you in major cities when you should be avoiding them, particularly during rush hour.

I bought this SD Card for an upcoming trip to Italy because I would be renting a car while I was there. Having this European map was a lifesaver. It gave us the ability to go off of the beaten paths. I found the map to be very accurate...even within the complex streetscapes of Florence. If you missed a turn, it would recalculate your route accurately.

Once, I was driving on a highway that had several tolls. This was an inconvenience because there was a 5-minute traffic backup at many of the toll booths. Finally, I requested that my GPS find an alternate route without tolls. Off we drove onto 2-lane roads with breathtaking views of old towns, farms, orchards, churches, and lakes. We toured the Tuscan Italian countryside like I never thought we could. Also, I used it to take me to the Leaning Tower of Pisa, Italian beachside communities and the Port Civitavecchia.

I even used it while on my Mediterranean cruise. I would see land in the distance and wonder where we were. I just turned my GPS on and within a moment, I was able to see our location. I also used it in the Greek Isles...Mykonos to be exact. It's great if you want to rent a scooter for a few hours and not lose your way.

Make sure that your GPS can accept this card. I had to do some research to see if this was compatible with my unit. I used the Garmin Nuvi 265W and it worked great.

I had a ten day trip coming up the following week. I ordered through Amazon. The free shipping came in plenty of time. All I did was plug the chip in. The Garmin picked it up immediately. The directions were so good that the voice prompt led me through every roundabout over five hundred miles of driving free of error. And not once did it snap back with anything more than "recalculating". Garmin with the plug-in was perfect in every way. Except when recharging - the Garmin would shutdown when plugged into the recharger. I was using my own USB cord rather than Garmin stock.

I bought this for my wife's nuvi 260W as we were visiting the south of France. I've been here many times before, but traveling here can be a challenge, lack of (easy to find) posted street names is #1 on the list.



This (micro)SD did just what it advertised, having a fantastic selection of streets in all but the tiniest of towns (it doesn't have the Route des Cretes, between Cassis and Ciotat, which has been around for 2000 or so years, maybe the cartographer was scared of narrow roads without rails) but I saw parts of Marseille that I hadn't seen before and getting around Nimes, Uzes, Nice, Monaco and St Tropez was a breeze.



One caveat though, if you understand French (but speak English), choose French language on your GPS. The 'translations' to English (because they are phonetic pronunciations) are awful. You will spend a huge amount of time laughing your [...] (Try Francois, Allende, La Ciotat or pretty much any street name, they're all quite funny)



Highly recommended, worth every nickle!

I just received this product and it took 3 hours to get it to work on a 60csx. The manual consists of 1 3"x 3" page in English of which 1/3 is a warning and 1/3 is a legal disclaimer.



I'm still in the States but from what I can see the maps are very good, with plenty of useful POI's. This chip did not work with Garmin Mapsource or Garmin Map installer. Insert the chip into the unit and figure it out from there. Meaning as far as I can tell, no PC tie in.



In my opinion Garmin makes the best mapping product on the market. Which is a shame because they are consistently overpriced with minimal support. It takes hours on line to see how useful their products can be. Which can be a little scary when you can't get on line.

It was exactly as expected and helped me get all around Athens. I did not use it around other areas of Greece or at all in Italy (yet). With it's network of roads downtown it was able to get me from point A to point B knowing the one-way streets. The only drawback was that it doesn't react as quickly as I hoped as it has to read from the SD card so there are slight delays.



I think it's great because you can go off the beaten path and know you can get to your destination.

Just returned from a two week driving trip thru northern Italy and used my Garmin NUVI 350 with the SM card for Italy - I would have been extremely frustrated if I did not have this navigational device with me every time we entered one of the major cities...It took us to each hotel (or other attraction we were trying to locate) even when we missed turns etc...I would highly recommend this to anyone unfamiliar with driving in Italy - it's worth the $99 and more..

Let's be up front about this. Maps, GPS, directions from the guy on the street, you're going to eventually get lost driving in a foreign country where you don't speak the language. That being said I can not adequately express the joy and lack of tension I felt driving in Tuscany while we had our Garmin City Navigator of Italy and Greece. The criticisms mentioned in Irina's review just prior to this one are all true, but in the end, so what. On those occasions where the data did not have the new off ramp or entrance to the I22 or the creation of the new roundabout in Siena you simply press detour and in about 5 seconds the new route is calculated. For me the beauty of this product was that in the end I knew it would get me there. Maybe it didn't seem to be the best route, but I could certainly not have done better with a map and my wife calling out directions. The only thing I would be aware of is the old - garbage in garbage out - advice. How you get there will be determined to a great extent on how precise your end location address is. If you are going to Florence but don't know the address of the parking garage, there is only so much the Garmin can do for you. (Been there, done that.) A couple of hints. 1. When in doubt, zoom out on the map, click on the location you are headed to and save. Some locations just don't appear in the address list no matter how many times you try to type in the name. I found this was often due to my misunderstanding of how towns, cities, and streets were categorized. That being said once I found the location on the map I was usually given the proper name and was able to find it in the data base; 2. The "attractions" section has a wonderful supply of information, including parking garages in the cities - found that one out too late; 3. If you are lost or get to an unidentified one way street, be quick with the detour button (menu - detour), it will save you a lot of time; 4. If you are taking a long drive, double check. Plot the route on the Garmin, then zoom out and use the touch screen to drag the map from beginning to end. Make sure that you and the GPS are in agreement as to where you are going. Had that problem going to the Coast. We were about 10 minutes away and the GPS took us up a mountain - as my wife said, this doesn't look like the beach. My fault since I had used the incorrect ending address so therefore, finally; 5. Bring a map - what can I say.

The software install itself was not too bad with my version, CN Europe NT 2010.10. I updated this software on the Garmin site with the unit plugged into the computer as well. BUT, the adding maps feature was dinosaur age, IMHO.



Here is yet another install guide with a few tricks:



If you want all of Europe, plug card reader with a 2 GB SD card into the computer. You need the external card to accommodate all of the Europe maps, as the internal memory does not have the space. Launch Mapsource.



With the Europe map set to least magnification (1000 miles), select the map select icon, and then click just inside the map square. This will allow you to select all of Europe in one swoop. Move the cursor around and you will see all the regions light up. No more selecting and adding one by one ! Mapsource told me that there were 264 maps total.



Next, choose "Transfer" then, "send to device". Walk away for a half hour or so and it should be mostly loaded depending on your computer............... You choose the SD card removable drive when prompted to store all the maps.......



To double check that the data has been transferred, check the contents of the SD card under "my computer". You should see a gmapsupp.img file that is 1.6 GB or so. Then put your SD card into your Nuvi, and reboot it. To double check that the new maps are being read off the SD card, go to: tools>map>map info. You should see CN Europe in there.......................Then check to see if you can navigate to some country........



If you do not want all of Europe, then plug your Nuvi into the computer and select the countries you want one by one or using the technique above. Hopefully, there will be enough internal memory to accommodate your selections. If not, delete the new gmapsupp.img file that represents the partial list of maps, so the unit does not get confused when you plug in the maps loaded on the SD card. Then buy a 2 GB memory card and do the aforementioned install.



To free up some space for maps in the internal memory, you plug your Nuvi into the computer and open up the Nuvi icon. In there you can find folders with jpeg images that you can delete and voices in languages that you can delete. I personally replaced the Garmin images with my own images. To review the images you loaded, this feature can be selected under tools>display>splash screen. It will give you a choice of images from SD card or from internal memory.......you can show people pictures of your family or whatever, or you can make your boot screen a selected picture.............

I purchased these maps for a driving trip through Switzerland, Austria, Germany and Italy. On the whole the maps themselves were excellent, finding the smallest roads, alleys etc. I purchased the CD as opposed to the SD card after reading reviews stating the card cannot be updated and some route planning software had to be purchased separately that was on the CD.

Here's where I got into trouble, As many reviewers stated assembling and downloading the regions to your unit is not very intuitive and pretty cumbersome (I'm trying not to stay stupid). Being that I had an extra 1 gig SD card around I only wanted to download the portions of Europe I needed. I made a route for my trip and made waypoints (hotels airports, sites I wanted to see etc) I zoomed in on the area of Europe for my trip. I highlighted all the oddly shaped regions that crossed borders, included portions of the Mediterranean etc, and downloaded them to my GPS. I cross checked the whole thing once downloaded. I simulated take me from point A to point B on my trip. GPS said calculating and let's go. Wonderful I thought that wasn't bad at all.

Upon arrival all worked well until I entered Zurich and Milan. As I approached, detail would start to disappear, and then side roads, then the representation of the car on the GPS would be in a void next to the one or two roads still on the screen that didn't seem to really exist. The GPS would keep repeating "Drive to highlighted route". This happened to me both times we were in Zurich and Milan. We finally had to resort to good old maps. After leaving the area the GPS would slowly regain its brain.

Back in the US I called Garmin tech support. They told me that they had never heard of anything like it and offered to replace my unit. After much trial and error, back home I figured it out. When I selected the regions I was going to, my zoom level on the map was to low and the tiny tiny city regions of Zurich and Milan could not be seen and I could not tell they were not highlighted. They appeared to be part of the much bigger geographical regions surrounding them.

I know technically this was my doing, but who would have thought I need to select the black dots that were Zurich and Milan. With all this being said, My GPS never gave me an error stating part of my route was missing I was driving through, during creation or during the actual driving. It just said calculating 100 % and GO. No errors, it just started to loose its mind like the HAL9000 computer when Dave Poole started pulling out the memory ( Daisy Daisy how does your garden grooooooowwwwwwww.........)

Moral of story buy a 2 gig card and download the whole thing or zoom way in and be very careful. I'm sure there are still a few, always in a bad temper European drivers, thinking, "What was that idiot in that Peugeot doing" Thank You for that Garmin.

I purchased Garmin City Navigator Europe NT for a recent trip to the UK and France. It was as all Garmin disks somewhat a pain to load and unlock. Once on my computer, it was another project to transfer data to my GPS. This software has so many layers (a strength AND weakness) that loads of useless information can make a tiny GPS screen overwhelmed by "Points of Interest" of all kinds. I must have inadvertently checked (or it was defaulted) routing to avoid toll roads, the fastest way to get around in France. This left us on some wild backroad adventuring thru the countryside of Normandy. All in all, travelling in a country where ones grasp of the native language is limited (me-French), it was an invaluable tool.

The CN Europe NT maps for Europe are a surprisingly difficult installation. The documentation is confusing and poorly written. The process requires that you find and enter a number of codes (product code, serial number, unlock code, unit code, etc.) without suggesting where you might find them or what they might look like. All this is required so that you can then struggle with unfamiliar software for uploading sections of maps.



I expected this to be like the relatively hassle-free North American map update. That one is straightforward and uploads the entire NA map in one action. Of course, until I get to Europe, there is no way to tell if I have uploaded the maps I need and whether the auto-routing feature will work.



This is not an Amazon problem, it is Garmin's "not user friendly" design that is at fault.

My Garmin Etrex Vista was great for geocaching but the base map that was provided was next to useless. This card put the whole USA and it's roads into my GPS and improved its function 100%. I have a MacIntosh computer that isn't exactly friendly with Garmin GPS's so this solved the problem by allowing me to by-pass my computer and install the system very easily. Easy to use, accurate and worth the money to get the most out of your compatible GPS Garmin units.

As usual these Garmin maps do a good job of getting you from place to place but it is not possible to download them from the microSD card to the computer. Also, I found a number of large Canadian retailer locations missing from the database. The Garmin rep could not give a good reason for this other than only so much would fit on the card. I'm sorry they shortchanged Canada.

The Garmin map update products are terrible! The instructions for installing map updates are absolutely unacceptable and woefully lacking. And, when you try calling Garmin customer support that is just about as bad. First of all, customer support is not available after 5PM M-F. No weekend support is available at all! I guess they are not a big enough company to have 24/7 customer support?! Be prepared for long waits on hold!! Email responses are inadequate and untimely. I was unsuccessful in installing my update and in fact after attempting to install the 2009 update my GPS was rendered unusable. Due to the unsatisfactory instructions and customer support I returned my update to Amazon for a full refund. I honestly don't know how Garmin stays in business with their customer and product support ethic!!!! The only way I could get my GPS working with its old map set was to go to the internet and google for similar problems, which I discovered is quite widespread. After considerable effort I was able to get my GPS working. I may never purchase another Garmin product! Perhaps if the instructions were more complete there wouldn't be so many problems.

This is a great software to keep your Garmin up to date on the roadway changes, and numerous other information available in your Garmin GPS. This is a life time upgrade with 4 per year updates. Update are a bit slow for the 56 mps DSL service I have, but with faster service naturally it should down load faster. Mine took about 8 Hours but it uploaded 2.09MB to completely correct changes.

Do not purchase this product. I have a 2005 Street Pilot model c330. The subdivision I live in was completed in October of 2006 and here it is August of 2009 and it does not show my address, that's 34 months folks.

The mapping software is just fine and does everything that one needs it to do. The price point is comparable to other units.



However, the current licensing agreement is shady. You would think when you buy a map, you can use the map. On other GPSrs we have had (Lowrance), we have been able to install the map on up to 6 SD cards.



With CN NT, you can unlock the map for one unit, period. If you have two units, you need to buy a map for the second unit. If you upgrade your GPSr, you are out of luck unless you can get Garmin to relock the first unit and unlock the new one. Bottom line, plan on buying a new map for each GPSr in your purchase price and, of course, without detailed road maps your GPSr base mapes are basically useless for road navigation.



Garmin's license agreement is not explicit on this point. Yes I know that they need to find a way to prevent someone from installing the maps on hundreds of units, but most software vendors have some provision for householding. Even Microsoft gives you a PC and a Laptop install.

Had some issues with the software that once installed the program would have an error on start-up and fail. After 3 or 4 Uninstall/Reinstalls it worked great!



Definately reccomend this over the Mini SD card version as this allows you to control the map on your computer and have future rights/access to it.

I've been using these maps for about 3 years on a GPSmap 60CSx. Now I won't travel without a GPS. There are some really nice and unexpected features in City Navigator, but also some shortcomings to be aware of.



The "search" function frustrates me every time I use it. MapSource (Garmin's Windows software for mapping) has no wildcard searches. Searching for Highway 34 is not the same as Hwy 34, US 34, 34, E Hwy 34, or Highway 34 N. If the name isn't in their database exactly that way, then your search is not going to find anything.



Routing is quite good with these maps, even down to details (like U-turns where medians prevent lefts). If you miss a turn, it will re-route you within a few seconds.



Note that Garmin products purchased for one GPS unit can NOT be transferred to a new/replacement unit (except by Garmin via warranty replacement). Garmin's anti-piracy "unlock" procedure is archaic and tedious. If you ever upgrade your Garmin, you must buy your maps again. One "unlock code" is assigned to one USB-connected GPS device, by serial number, and cannot be changed.
